Malifact laughed, his hateful voice echoing through the chamber. "Yes, Renn. I have corrupted thine little pet, and now will use it to destroy thee." He turned to the corrupted dragon. "Attack, minion."
The dragon roared, then turned its head to face Renn. She took a step back. She knew first-hand how powerful her dragon was... She swore and leaped back as it blasted down a torrent of darkness energy at her. She landed in a crouch in front of Robina and Artix. "Any ideas?"
"Yeah, but where's Galanoth when you need him?" Artix said, only half-jokingly.
"We're not calling in a Dragonslayer!" Renn snapped, shooting a glare back at the paladin. "This dragon is my friend!" She cried out and narrowly dodged another blast of darkness. "... was my friend." The pain of betrayal in her voice couldn't have been missed by even the most oblivious of men.
Renn hesitated for a moment, then stood straight, staring up at the dark dragon before her. "Vivexyl, listen to me! It's Renn! I rescued you as an egg, and hatched you! You have to remember me!" She cried to the dragon, though as she did, her words were warped into the draconic langauge by a powerful amulet hanging around her neck. It began to glow gently, casting a slight illumination into the dark around her. "Please!"
The dragon paused. It had a blast of darkness stored up, waiting to be fired. If this tactic didn't work, Renn was as good as dead. The behemoth's head tilted slightly to the side as it interpreted her words in the draconic langauge.
"Do not listen to the tiny mortal! She is but a snack, waiting to be feasted upon! Slaughter her!" Malifact called out to the dragon, but still it hesitated.
Artix and Robina both took the opportunity to step back several paces. They knew Renn was a powerful Dragonlord, but they weren't going to take any chances, in case this didn't work.
Vivexyl stared down Renn, obviously torn between a nagging memory and the dark power that had hold over it. The darkness still curled and twisted about near its mouth. Finally, the dragon seemed to make a decision. It pulled its head back slightly and inhaled, the sign that it was about to attack.
